Computer and Workplace Skills Training


We are offering “Computer and Workplace Skills Training” (formerly Newcomers Enhancing Employability and Awareness) sessions to newcomers with a CLB level 3+ at NO COST! These sessions offer the essential skills needed to help you succeed in the Canadian job market.   We encourage you to participate in all sessions listed below which run continuously!

MORNING sessions offered: CLB 5+, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

AFTERNOON sessions offered: CLB 3-5, Monday to Friday, 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Introduction to Computers (2 weeks)

Learn about the parts of your computer and other devices including external drives to back up your information, how to manage your files, search the Internet, computer terms, and use the keyboard with all your fingers!  This excellent starter course will help you feel comfortable and confident when using desktop computers and laptops.

Beginner to Intermediate Microsoft Word (2 weeks)

Learn how to create many types of documents including letters, flyers, lists and more, apply formatting to make your information stand out above the rest, set up different page layouts using various sizes and orientations, create tables and add bullets, automatically number lists and paragraphs, and use tabs and indents.

Beginner to Intermediate Microsoft Excel (2 weeks)

Put down the calculator and pencil, and learn Excel to get your totals!  This program allows you to organize, format, and calculate numbers using formulas on a spreadsheet divided by rows and columns. 

Workplace Essentials & Microsoft Outlook (1 week)

Understanding the Canadian workplace and culture is your key to success! Learn how to effectively communicate in a professional way using verbal and electronic communication.  Manage your time and learn to read and understand body language.

Finding & Keeping the Job (1 week)

Learn how to job search in today’s job market using the Internet, newspapers, networking (accessing the hidden job market), and more.  Create a cover letter specific to the job you are applying for, and prepare yourself for the interview to secure the job!

  • Newcomers with a Permanent Resident Card or are a convention refugee
