Enhancing Employability for Older Workers

(also known as Targeted Initiative for Older Workers)

The Unemployed Help Centre is providing a program called "Enhancing Employability for Older Workers" (EEOW). This program will prepare older workers ages 50-64 at no cost for new employment by enhancing specific workplace skills to increase employability.

Candidates will be assessed during intake to determine career goals so they can be directed to one of the specific training sectors identified to meet labour market demands in our community (Customer Service, Manufacturing, and Security). Each training sector will provide participants with the following training:

Customer Service (10 weeks)

  • Computer Training – 8 weeks
  • Smart Serve Certification, National Food Safety Certification – 1 week
  • Employment Skills Training (job search skills), Health & Safety Training - 1 week

Security (6 weeks)

  • Introductory Computer Training – 4 weeks
  • Security Training – 1 week
  • Employment Skills Training (job search skills), Health & Safety Training - 1 week

Manufacturing (5 weeks)

  • Introductory Computer Training – 4 weeks
  • Employment Skills Training (job search skills), Lift Truck Certification, Health & Safety Training - 1 week

Eligibility

  • The program will apply to older workers aged 50 to 64 who have lost their jobs;
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • lack skills needed for successful integration into new employment;
  • and live in an eligible community
