Newcomer Program
Through funding made available by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Unemployed Help Centre of Windsor is offering a new and innovative program called Newcomers Enhancing Employability and Awareness. This program is designed to assist newcomers with a CLB level 3 or higher with the opportunity to develop and enhance their job search skills, English vocabulary and awareness of the Canadian work culture and environment.
Participants will be taught basic computer skills in programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel as well as English skills and nine modules of the Canadian Workplace Essentials (CWE) program which include: nonverbal communication, initiating conversation, socializing and understanding organizational culture to name a few.
The program operates on a full time basis (Monday to Friday) for the duration of 8 weeks. The goals of the program are to increase awareness of Canadian workplace norms in order to effectively access and understand the labour market and to assist newcomers as they successfully integrate into the community.
Programs are on-going:
Length: 8 weeks
Days/Time: Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
Assistance provided in arranging child-minding
Easily accessible via Transit Windsor Ottawa 4 bus to the door (every 20 minutes)
Eligibility:
- Newcomers with a Permanent Resident Card
- Unemployed or underemployed and seeking work
- Able to commit to the full duration of the program
