UHC Joins After the Bell with Food Banks Canada to Fight Summer Hunger
For numerous children in our community, the summer break marks a period of insecurity and increased hardship. When school concludes, so does access to reliable, nutritious food that children receive through in-school programs. This disruption not only impacts their physical health, but also affects their emotional well-being, ability to concentrate, and overall development.
After the Bell by Food Banks Canada delivers nutritious, ready-to-eat food packs to food banks across Canada, ensuring children have continued access to healthy food throughout the summer. Since becoming one of the first pilot sites for the summer meal program in 2015, UHC has remained committed to ensuring children are not left behind when school is out.
This year, UHC proudly joined Food Banks Canada to create 215,000 food packs—5,600 of which will be distributed across Windsor and Essex County to fill bellies and power smiles. In other words, as Food Banks Canada puts it; “When school’s out, we’re in.”
Watch the interview with June Muir, CEO of UHC – Hub of Opportunities, explaining the importance of joining the fight against food insecurity in our community.
